The free 15 minute consultation is an opportunity for us to determine if we are a good fit to work together. The best outcomes for therapy are when the relationship between the therapist and the client is strong. The consultation is a time to check if we can start to work together and if I have the expertise to support you. I typically ask about what brings you to therapy and your goals for therapy. This is also a great time for me to answer any questions you might have. There is no pressure or commitment, and as the consultation is considered a professional conversation, it is confidential.
Yes! Generally, I am bound by my ethical responsibilities to keep confidential what is shared with me in session or in professional conversation. However, I have some legal obligations that could require me to break confidentiality such as to protect a client or another person from imminent harm or if I or my notes are subpoenaed to court.
My current rate is $220 per hour. Initial sessions and ongoing sessions with couples are typically 90 minutes long, making these session fees $330.
In a counselling session you can expect to be understood and your experience validated. I’ll be interested in getting to know you so that I can be most helpful to you in meeting your goals for therapy. The first sessions tend to focus on understanding you and your situation. In subsequent sessions we’ll continue to work towards achieving your therapeutic goals.
Absolutely. Your privacy is legally and ethically protected. As a Registered Psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists, all communication, session notes, and personal data are kept strictly confidential. The only standard exceptions involve situations with an immediate risk of serious harm to yourself or others, which will be transparently reviewed during your initial intake.
Most insurances cover the services of a Registered Psychologist. Please verify with your insurance provider that you have coverage for psychological services. Additionally, psychological services are considered eligible medical expenses. Consult with a tax professional to see how this might be helpful for your situation. At this time I do not direct bill insurance companies.
